DVCC V “Bootcamps”

It is important to distinguish what the aim is when embarking on any form of exercise and nutrition program, particularly when investing your time and money into working with a “bootcamp”.

I will assume that if you are reading this your main aim is fat loss and physical transformation.

A typical bootcamp:

  • Typically train you for 45-60 minutes of predominantly aerobic training which has been shown to raise cortisol (your stress hormone) that can cause muscle breakdown and fat storage around your stomach area.0220-1990s-fitness-bootcamp_li
  • Exercise is mostly limited to bodyweight and running, this means that there is no ability to progress the body other than going “faster or longer”.
  • Focuses solely on providing a “perception of hard work” which is not necessarily optimal for body composition change. E.g. If you were to run as far as you can for an hour it would be very hard, however, not very effective for fat loss.
  • Very little if any nutritional guidance offered with the training. Without nutritional changes you will not produce a physically leaner, healthier body.
  • Does not follow a structured changing training plan. The sessions change in emphasis every time, which results in muscle confusion NOT adaption.
  • I high chance of injury due to a lot of impact e.g. running, jumping etc. You need to be fit to run NOT run to get fit.
