I often enjoy spending a few hours talking with friends at our local Costa coffee or Starbucks, and its here that I learn a lot about why we as a society are putting on weight year on year.
Its simple, the foods we are presented (bombarded is probably a better term) with are hardly “food” at all. If you spoke to your grandparents now, they would tell you how there was never a chance they could buy a double chock cupcake while rushing between meetings.
With this in mind I thought I would give you a helping hand in choosing whether a “food” in front of you is actually a food, and therefore whether its going to be good for your weight loss goals!
Step 1: How Many Ingredients Does It Contain?
At The DVCC we work on the premise of single ingredient foods as much as possible. When you pick an apple off the tree and keep it in your fruit bowl, it doesn’t look much different from when it was hanging on the tree.
Choose foods with as few added ingredients as possible
Step 2: Will It Still Be “Edible” In
2 Years Time?
Have you seen the video of a McDonalds burger that was left unwrapped in the open air for two years? It looked exactly the same as it did when first served. Not even ants touched it!! That tells you something…And its not a good thing!
Choose foods that DO go “off”.
Step 3: You Can Pronounce All Of The Ingredients
If you HAVE to eat foods with more than one ingredient. Make sure you can pronounce them! If they sound more like they should be on Star Wars then steer clear!
Step 4: The Main Ingredient Is Not Sugar
If the main ingredient is sugar, steer clear! Often manufacturers try to hide their bad ingredients. High Fructose Corn Syrup, is often called “Corn Sugar”. The name is different but the harmful effects on your body are the same.
