Lemon water doesn’t sound the most appetizing thing to drink when you’ve just got up in the morning, especially if you are used to having a large cappuccino from your local Costa.
However lemon water is all the talk at the moment and is becoming a morning ritual for people all over the world because of its numerous health benefits.
Helps Detoxification
As you will likely know, lemons are full of anti-oxidants, and this helps you detoxify from waste products which your body doesn’t need.
Having cup of warm water and lemon in the morning will also help to stimulate your metabolism, improve gut health, and aid digestion.
It is thought that it is the temperature of the drink which has the effect of aiding digestion, so in fairness a coffee or tea would likely have the same effect. However tea and coffee are both diuretics, so they cause you to dehydrate. Where as the lemon water will hydrate you.
Improved Tolerance To Carbs
If you have egg on toast, cereal or anything which contains a substantial amount of sugar as your first meal of the day, warm lemon water will help your body deal with that sugar. This is because lemons contain fiber and this helps to slow down food entering the digestive tract and therefore the release of sugar into the blood.
This means that you are less likely to store body fat after such a breakfast. Although, saying that, I would still advise you to eat a high protein and natural fat breakfast over cereal.
Reduces Inflammation
The antioxidants found within a lemon are very beneficial for reducing inflammation. Its important to reduce inflammation as it has been linked with many illnesses and diseases
Inflammation also causes the release of cortisol which can increase fat storage around the belly button, so its in your best interest to reduce it
Quick And Simple
All you need to do is fill a glass with some some warm water and squeeze half a lemon into it, remove any seeds from the water and drink it. Lemons as you will know are very acidic so do not swill it around your mouth. Also avoid brushing your teeth straight after your lemon water, the best thing to do is wash your mouth out with some water before you brush.
